The Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards

This week's card pull and deck review from my deck collection, is a very unique deck. The Lakota Sweat Lodge Cards was created by 3 women who shared Inipi (sweat lodge ceremony) experiences and Lakota Sioux spiritual teachings with Chief Lame Deer (who acted as consultant for the project.) It is a very interesting system and I was lucky to come across this one in an old bookshop on one of our holidays in Wellington.

This version was published in 1994 through Destiny Books; a division of Inner Traditions International. You can purchase your own copy directly from the publisher here: https://www.innertraditions.com/books/the-lakota-sweat-lodge-cards

Feel free to choose a card (or couple of cards) below. Come back on Thursday and scroll to the bottom for card and crystal meanings.

THIS WEEK'S CARD PULL

Card 1: Magnetite Card 2: Gold Tiger's Eye Card 3: Bronzite Card 4: Pyrite

I have a few Native American decks and I really love this one because it is a rich system that can be used in many ways.

They come in a slip box with a cardboard fitting so pretty sturdy, although my copy was well worn, which I also loved about finding a used copy. The poor box however, had definitely had a hiding, so I may get a new one at some point just because I like nice clean sets on my shelf. ;)

These are interesting in that there are different card types, Great Mysteries, Supernaturals, and the Elements of the Sweat Lodge. There are also a variety of spreads to get the most of your reading and find the desired information.

There are 50 cards, and they are thick, bright, colourful and easy to shuffle. On the front is the card artwork, number and name. The backs are all the same with the deck logo.

There is a 192 page book, with black and white images of the artwork, the Lakota and English name, word, number and meaning. Plus a message/ teaching, Tradition, Card Meaning, and Meditation for each card. There is a deeper and richer teaching in this book as well which is definitely worth reading about and adding to your knowledge base or spiritual practice. There is also a pronunciation guide and recommended reading.

I definitely recommend this deck for your collection because it is very insightful and it is by actual Lakota Peoples. It is always great supporting Indigenous Deck Creators.
